Mechanism of Indirect Photon-Induced Desorption at the Water Ice Surface

چکیده
Electronic excitations near the surface of water ice lead to desorption adsorbed molecules, through a so far debated mechanism. A systematic study photon-induced indirect desorption, revealed by spectral dependence (7 13 eV), is conducted for Ar, Kr, N2, and CO on H2O or D2O amorphous ices. The mass isotopic increase intrinsic efficiency with photon energy all point mechanism induced collisions between adsorbates energetic H D atoms, produced photodissociation water. This constitutes direct unambiguous experimental demonstration weakly species ice, sheds new light possibility this in other systems. It also has implications description astrochemical models.

The adsorption of atomic hydrogen on the reconstructed Si ( lOO)-2 x I surface is studied using embedded Si clusters as models of an extended Si surface. Analytic gradients of generalized valence bond (GVB) wavefunctions are used to predict equilibrium structures and harmonic vibrational frequencies; the correlation-consistent configuration interaction (CCCI) method is used to calculate heats o...
متن کاملThermal Desorption of Water-Ice in the Interstellar Medium
Water (H2O) ice is an important solid constituent of many astrophysical environments. To comprehend the role of such ices in the chemistry and evolution of dense molecular clouds and comets, it is necessary to understand the freeze-out, potential surface reactivity, and desorption mechanisms of such molecular systems. Consequently, there is a real need from within the astronomical modelling com...

The crystal growth process by which fish antifreeze proteins (AFPs) and antifreeze glycoproteins (AFGPs) modify the ice morphology is analyzed in the AFP-ice system. A newly identified AFP-induced surface reconstruction mechanism enables one-dimensional helical and irregular globular ice binding surfaces to stabilize secondary, kinetically less stable ice surfaces with variable face indices. Desorption of benzene (C6H6) from solid water surfaces [compact amorphous solid water (c-ASW) and crystalline ice (CI)] during irradiation of ultrathin solid films with low energy (250-300 eV) electrons has been investigated. The observed desorption behaviour is complex but typically two desorption components, with particularly large cross-sections, were present in the observed signal. A fast c...
متن کاملA desorption mechanism of water following vacuum-ultraviolet irradiation on amorphous solid water at 90 K.
Following 157 nm photoexcitation of amorphous solid water and polycrystalline water ice, photodesorbed water molecules (H(2)O and D(2)O), in the ground vibrational state, have been observed using resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization detection methods. Time-of-flight and rotationally resolved spectra of the photodesorbed water molecules were measured, and the kinetic and internal energy dis...
